A whirling lunchtime of dance music opens with Ravel’s suite Le Tombeau de Couperin, while Stravinsky’s ballet music for Jeu des Cartes is said to be inspired by his love of poker – the music is arranged in deals rather than acts, with the characters as cards in the game and the wily Joker causing chaos through his ability to become any card.
