Weber Overture: Der Freischütz
Mozart Piano Concerto No.24
Bruckner Symphony No.4 Romantic
Rafael Payare CONDUCTOR
Vikingur Ólafsson PIANO
Mozart Week takes place in April 2017, but here’s a night to whet the appetite! Piano Concerto No.24 is a very different proposition to Mozart’s other Piano Concertos. Written in the minor key and for the largest orchestration of any of his concertos, it has a more reflective, personal, almost intimate quality. We welcome back Icelandic star Vikingur Ólafsson to perform this concerto.
Aside from his Te Deum, Bruckner has been absent from programmes in recent years. He returns with a bang in his epic masterwork and most popular symphony, the Fourth. Bruckner himself labelled it the Romantic, alluding to its depiction of an almost Wagnerian world of medieval castles and hunts in leafy woodland glades; everything that would appeal to his public, both then and now.
Free pre-concert talk at 7pm with Music Director Rafael Payare. All welcome.
