Learning & Community Engagement

Learning & Community Engagement Features

Learning & Community Engagement is at the core of all that the Ulster Orchestra does.

Learning & Community Engagement is at the core of all that the Ulster Orchestra does.

The Ulster Orchestra’s Learning and Community Engagement programme helps us to achieve our vision of enriching lives through music. Since 2016, all of our musicians have been delivering outreach and education activity as part of their orchestral schedule – the only symphony orchestra in the UK to work in this way. This means that we’re able to reach more people than ever before, right across Northern Ireland, and to help people experience the joy of live music as audiences and participants in a range of long and short-term activities throughout the year.

No matter what stage you’re at on your musical journey, we aim to provide support to groups and individuals which exploits the amazing skills of our musicians while helping you gain skills, confidence and an insight into the life of a professional musician. From our hugely popular Come and Play events for players of Grade 4 standard upwards and coaching for community bands to the Professional Experience Scheme for emerging orchestral musicians, we provide opportunities for musical development for players at all levels of experience.

community Engagement

We aim to bring the joy of live music to people from all communities across Northern Ireland, whether that’s as a new audience member at a community event with full orchestra, as a participant in one of our co-creation projects or as a participant in a Wellbeing workshop in care homes and healthcare settings. All of our community activity is delivered in partnership with a community group or organisation so that we can devise musical experiences which meet the needs and interests of participants and/ or enhance activity that’s already taking place.
