Premiering The Class(ic) Symphony
- Date:
- By: Ulster Orchestra
During lockdown last year, a group of P5 pupils at St. Moninnaโs Primary School in Cloughoge had a student teacher from St. Maryโs University College work with their class. On โMusic Mondays,โ each participating pupil worked online to create a miniature composition and their student teacher (and past St. Moninnaโs pupil!), Aidan McKeown, then put them together to form what they called โThe P5 Symphonyโ. Word reached the Learning and Community Engagement Team here at the UO and together, we worked to shape the symphony and prepare it for recording.
This beautiful piece, now with the official title โThe Class(ic) Symphonyโ, was recorded in the Spires Centre by the Ulster Orchestra and the now-P6 pupils were there to watch as our very special guests. We also had John Toal as a special guest and you can listen to his chat with the teachers and pupils from St Moninnaโs, as well as our own Jonathan Simmance and Colin Stark. Weโre looking forward to sharing the recording in due course too.
Well done everyone!
