Let’s Play!

The Ulster Orchestra is ready to play and its exciting new Season of concerts is on sale now! This season sees the core subscription series increase to 16 concerts, a series of Pops concerts in Belfast Waterfront and the introduction of a brand new Festive mini-series, along with the return of the 9-concert JTI Lunchtime Series – and that’s just in Belfast. As well as this the Orchestra will be performing ‘On Your Doorstep’ in communities throughout the region, all year long. There’s something for everyone!

Change of Conductor for 22/23 April

We would like to announce a change of conductor for our concerts on 22 and 23 April, Let Love Spring Forth! (Ulster Hall) and The Ulster Orchestra in Love and Literature (Ardhowen Theatre, Enniskillen). We are delighted to inform you that Chief Conductor Rafael Payare and his wife, cellist Alisa Weilerstein, have had their first child and Rafael is therefore spending time with Alisa and their new arrival. Our replacement for the evening is Assistant Conductor at the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Alpesh Chauhan. Come and Play 2016 is a Resounding Success

Over 150 musicians, professional and amateur, gathered in the Ulster Hall on Sunday 20 March for the Ulster Orchestra’s annual Come and Play day. Come and Play is a wonderful opportunity for amateur musicians of all ages to get an insight into the world of an orchestral musician. A day of rehearsal culminated in a short performance under the baton of Stephen Bell, and the programme included work by Elgar, Khachachurian, Leroy Anderson and Tchaikovsky. UO Welcomes Managing Richard Wigley

We are delighted to welcome our new Managing Director Richard Wigley, who commences with the Ulster Orchestra today. Richard comes to the Ulster Orchestra having worked for the Hallé Orchestra in Manchester, and spending a decade as the General Manager of the BBC Philharmonic before going most recently to act in a consultancy capacity, primarily for the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra and also leading the Association of British Orchestras’ Find Your Way mentoring scheme for emerging leaders.
