This programme has all the freshness and brilliance of a morning in early Spring.
Rodrigoโs Concierto de Aranjuez blazes with Spanish sunlight and passion and has a gorgeously lyrical central movement that has been popularised through diverse arrangements such as Miles Davisโs Sketches of Spain album and the 1996 film Brassed Off!
We also bring a focus to female French composers with a work by Elsa Barraine from the early 20th century that deserves to be much more widely known and a piece by Camille Pรฉpin, one of Franceโs leading living composers. Sibeliusโs luminous Third Symphony sounds like a Finnish forest bursting into leaf and closes the concert.
