Tune In To Yoga

Released in time for World Wellbeing Week, the Ulster Orchestra presents an exciting new series of yoga sessions

The Ulster Orchestra is delighted to have joined with Tanya Ross and Graeme Stewart to bring you three very special sessions of Yoga. Graeme has specially composed music for each session and Yoga teacher Tanya is your guide. Tanya says:

“I invite you to join me to listen to the beauty of the sounds the amazing composer Graeme Stewart and the Ulster Orchestra have created. Place your Yoga mat, or use any soft surface, and let the movement and music inspire you to move freely and to let it speak to your inner self.

I invite you to move with me.

Move with me to the flows I have created, compelled by the beauty in the music and how it moved me with my Yoga practice.

Or you can close your eyes and follow my words loosely to let you move and create your own Yoga practice to move with how you feel and how the music inspires you.

Or choose to just listen; be still and let your mind run away with how the music speaks to you. Let it take you on your own magical journey - play, run wild and be free.

I want to share my one hope with you, the hope that I have for you - however you decide to practice, with your mind or your body or both, practice only what serves you well and creates a positive shining light of curiosity, of magical movement and uplifting, powerful play in your mind and in your body.

Be free to be you.”

This first session takes place to the composition ‘Nāda’ and it brings together the flow of sound and Yoga

“Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray.
Some call it passion. Some call it purpose. Others call it meaning. Whatever you call it — it’s “curiosity” that pulls you closer to it.

And curiosity isn’t something you “think”, it’s something you “feel” that stems from the heart. It’s that feeling you have for someone that goes from a crush to one date to a relationship. It’s that feeling you have for writing that takes you from amateur to blogger to author. Let yourself be drawn by its pull. Learn to follow your heart. It can lead you to places you could’ve never imagined.” - Rumi

In this session, Adhisãra, Tanya helps you to bring breath control together with postures; it is movement with breath and intention.

“Awakening is not a thing. It is not a goal, not a concept. It is not something to be attained. It is a metamorphosis. If the caterpillar thinks about the butterfly it is to become, saying ‘And then I shall have wings and antennae,’ there will never be a butterfly. The caterpillar must accept its own disappearance in its transformation. When the marvellous butterfly takes wing, nothing of the caterpillar remains.” - Alejandro Jodorowsky

In this final session, Vinyasa brings a flow between the asanas (the Yoga postures) and with breath.

“Almost all creativity involves purposeful play.” - Abraham Maslow

“Life is playfulness…We need to play so that we can rediscover the magic all around us.” - Flora Colao
